Black Hole - Event Horizon Messier 87 (M87)
Coming Soon! We are proud to bring this specimen to Earth to share with all of you. It was, as you might imagine, one of the most difficult specimens we’ve procured for the Mini Museum!
Please Note: Shipping for this product is $53,490,000 (USD). Details below under IMPORTANT SHIPPING INFORMATION.
This specimen is a thin slice of the event horizon from the black hole at the center of Messier 87, a supergiant elliptical galaxy in the constellation of Virgo. Referred to as M87 for short, this galaxy is one of the most massive in the known universe. The specimen measures approximately 1cm in diameter.
First mapped by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) with unprecedented angular resolution, the black hole at the center of M87 is considered to be the "heavyweight champion of black holes”, per Professor Heino Falcke of Radboud University in the Netherlands.
For more details about this specimen, we recommend reading the latest studies in the current issue of The Astrophysical Journal Letters” https://iopscience.iop.org/journal/2041-8205/page/Focus_on_EHT
The specimen ships in a classic, glass-topped riker box measuring 4x3x1 (inches). A small card with details about the specimen is also included.
Safety Notice: For your protection, this mini-singularity is encased in an acrylic specimen jar. The jar is sealed with a thin layer of sturdy vinyl tape. If you wish, the tape can be removed so that you can access the specimen directly. We’re not quite sure what would happen if you did touch it though it is likely that you would be drawn in, perhaps shredded in the process. However, if you do survive, you will likely be drawn into a single point of infinite density.
IMPORTANT SHIPPING INFORMATION: We can only ship using ground-based transportation. The true weight of this specimen is difficult to measure so we are using the Schwarzschild radius calculation to determine shipping costs. The approximate weight is 6.7^24 (septillion) kilograms, which is a bit heavier than the Earth. Not to worry, we’ll use a strong shipping box with two (2) layers of hefty packing tape. We are also planning to use a new, cutting-edge foam to pad the rikers that takes advantage of the latest work in quantum entanglement logistics. It’s called a Flexible Layered Uniform interFerence Field or FLUFF.
Shipping for this product is $53,490,000 (USD). It's the closest we could get to free shipping and it also happens to be the distance in light years to M87.
