Dinosaur fossils have captured the popular imagination for decades. The giant, bizarre creatures that traversed the Earth far before the dawn of human civilization are the subject of countless exhibits, movies, books and television shows. Here is a countdown of 10 of the most significant and incredible fossils ever discovered!
10. Megalosaurus Femur

Up first is the first dinosaur ever discovered. Paleontologist William Buckland named Megalosaurus in 1824; its bones were previously thought to be those of an elephant!
9. Iguanodon

Counting down with another first, this specimen of Iguanodon, discovered by Mary Ann Mantell, is thought to be the first herbivorous dinosaur ever discovered, which broadened the horizons of scientists’ understanding of the animals greatly.
8. Archaeopteryx

This find was the first dinosaur ever found that scientists believe flew. Combined with the discovery of Sinosauropteryx, these fossils helped scientists make the connection between birds and dinosaurs.
7. Hadrosaur
