SOLD Cretaceous Era Fossil - Scombroclupea & Three Shrimp 7.74" - Sannine Formation

SOLD Cretaceous Era Fossil - Scombroclupea & Three Shrimp 7.74" - Sannine Formation

93 million years ago, prehistoric sea creatures swam in the coastal waters of what is now the Sannine Formation. This limestone deposit in northern Lebanon is a treasure trove of fossil specimens that paleontologists are learning more about each day.

This specimen is a 7.74" showcase Scombroclupea fossil. It also includes three small shrimp. Scombroclupea is a bony fish that is abundant in Lebanon's Cenomanian deposits but is not well understood due to poor fossilization. It can be identified by its toothless jaw and its anal fin supported by 13-16 pterygiophores cartilage supports. The fossil is estimated to be over 93 million years old and includes a black metal stand and a certificate of authenticity.
