Tyrannosaurus Rex Tooth
Measuring 40ft (12m) in length and weighing upwards of 14 tons, Tyrannosaurus rex was one of the largest and most powerful terrestrial predators in history. The most advanced in an 80 million year chain of tyrannosaurid evolution, T. rex had heavy, deep skulls reinforced with sutures, lightened by hollow chambers... and of course, big, sharp teeth!
This specimen is a fragment of Tyrannosaurus rex tooth, recovered on private land in the Hell Creek Formation.
Mosasaur Tooth
Since the first Mosasaur skull was discovered in 1764, our knowledge of this large family of marine reptiles has come primarily from skeletal remains. Mosasaurs ranged in size from 3.3 ft to 57 ft. Their skulls were flexible and their jaws are double-hinged. While this arrangement probably allowed a Mosasaur to swallow prey whole, the alignment of a Mosasaur's teeth with "bony crypts" to protect emerging teeth also suggests Mosasaurs likely crushed bones as frequently as they tore into flesh.
Once thought to be almost crocodile-like in appearance or even related directly to snakes, recent studies have revised our understanding of Mosasaurs, giving way to a picture of a sleek and streamlined predator well-suited to dominating its environment.
This specimen is a complete Mosasaur tooth fossil measuring between 1.5" to 2" long. Each fossil tooth will be individually wrapped and shipped in a sturdy carton.
Dimetrodon Spine Fragment
With a fearsome jaw and reptilian appearance, Dimetrodon is often mistaken for a dinosaur. However, this family of Early Permian Period species falls into a disparate taxonomic clade known as synapsids which includes mammals.
Dimetrodon is most easily identified by its iconic spine sail, a huge extension of its vertebrae that could grow over 5 feet tall. This sail's purpose could have ranged from courtship displays to temperature regulation, or even as a source of locomotion.
This specimen is a fossil fragment of the Dimetrodon's iconic spine. The purpose ofΒ the spine sail is unknown, though speculation ranges from thermoregulation and locomotion.
Triceratops Bone
Triceratops belongs to a large family of dinosaurs known as the Ceratopsids. This family of dinosaurs lived during the Late Cretaceous Period and were quadrupeds with bony frills and beak-like mouths.
This specimen is a fragment of Triceratops bone, recovered on private land in South Dakota from the Hell Creek Formation. Sizes and shapes vary widely on this specimen but they are all about 0.75" to 1.5" (2cm-3cm) in length.Β
Woolly Rhinoceros Bone
Before humans dominated the Earth, we shared the planet with towering megafauna, among them the magnificent Woolly Rhinoceros. With massive bodies covered in thick hair, humped shoulders to carry their heavy heads, and a titanic horn that made them tower over the expansive steppe landscapes, woolly rhinos were a true sight to behold in the Pleistocene tundra.
This specimen is a piece of fossilized Woolly Rhinoceros bone. It was recovered from the North Sea, which once was a tundra between the British Isle and continental Europe before it flooded 8,000 years ago.
