Dinosaur Eggshell - Card Display - Authentic Fossil

Just like birds and reptiles today, every dinosaur that lived during the Mesozoic was hatched from an egg. The discovery of fossil dinosaur eggs upended our understanding of these prehistoric creatures, shedding new light on how they developed, evolved, and lived.

This specimen is a fragment of fossilized dinosaur eggshell, discovered in the Provence region of France. The egg was laid 70 million years ago by a Hypselosaurus, a dinosaur usually categorized as a titanosaurian sauropod that lived during the Late Cretaceous.

The fossil egg fragment measures approximately 1cm. It comes affixed to an informational display card featuring the Mini Museum Seal of Authenticity.

When thinking about deep time, we often find ourselves caught up in the grand movements and nearly unfathomable expanses of millennia stretched end to end. Yet, here in this humble eggshell, we have a single moment captured for all eternity... the birth of an individual dinosaur.

The egg is an incredible natural structure designed to protect and support a growing body until it is ready to come into the world. The texture, when viewed under magnification, resembles rocky hills with a network of valleys running in between. These numerous rifts serve as channels for oxygen, sustaining the fragile creature within.
