Trilobite - 4.98" Drotops megalomanicus Fossil

Trilobite - 4.98" Drotops megalomanicus Fossil

The Cambrian Explosion brought new life and diversity to the ocean. 521,000,000 years ago, the first trilobites emerged in the fossil record thanks to this evolutionary event. With a tough exoskeleton, trilobites were one of the earliest known arthropods and quickly spread across the planet thanks to their incredible adaptability.

This specimen is a complete 4.98" trilobite fossil from the genus Drotops. It comes from Morocco and is dated to be around 390 million years old. During the Ordovician, these creatures were unique among other trilobites for their complex eyes. They were comprised compound calcite lenses which can still be observed after millions of years.
