Extraterrestrial Amino Acids - CM2 Carbonaceous Chondrites

Life on Earth is 3.7 billion years old, but the building blocks for our existence here is even older. Some of these ancient meteorites preserve rare amino acids that may have given rise to life on Earth!

This specimen is a sample from the Murchison and Jbilet Winselwan meteorites, which are CM2 Class Carbonaceous Chondrites. These meteorites contain within amino acids that formed before our solar system. Dust from these meteorites is encased in resin and has been displayed in a glass-topped riker box.
