THE INDONESIAN LAVA STONE
Nurtured by Indonesia's volcanic activity, Magma Chalcedony is an incredible gemstone that mirrors the forces that created it. The flows of "lava" that appear within the gem are actually a joining of three distinct geological phenomena. Silicate chalcedony provides the base from which fiery red iron oxide and orange-hued crocoite crystals create the stunning gemstone. The result appears as a river of lava frozen in time.
This pendant is a piece of Magma Chalcedony, showcasing the incredible colors that have made this gem a prize among Java's many gemstones.

A FIERY GEOTHERMAL COCKTAIL
Magma Chalcedony is the trade name for a beautiful combination of three geological processes, coming together to produce a lava-hued stone.
Chalcedony is a form of silicate with a cryptocrystalline structure, meaning their crystals are only revealed under microscopic observation. They form in a variety of environments, both in acidic and basic volcanic materials and in sedimentary environments near the Earth’s surface.
From the base, the chalcedony is infused with inclusions of iron oxide, providing a firey red color that appears like magma flows across a volcano’s surface.
Adding to the effect are small crocoite crystals that provide an orange hue. This crystal’s coloring has been catching the eye of collectors for some time, including as a yellow pigment on some of Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings and on school buses.
FORGED IN FIRE
This joining of chalcedony, iron oxide, and crocoite can be found in a few spots across the world, but none can compare to the Indonesian source.
Stoked by the archipelago's volcanic activity, Java’s Magma Chalcedony appears as lava flows frozen in time, an incredible gemstone that imitates the geological processes that brought it together. This beautiful phenomenon has made Magma Chalcedony one of the most famous of Java’s many gemstones.
